Tenders are invited for Consultancy Assignment for Copy Editing and Designing Reports of the SWIO SBE Programme Fisheries in the South West Indian Ocean (SWIO) Region experience severe pressures from overfishing, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fisheries, destruction of critical habitats for fish reproduction and feeding, and overexploitation of fish stocks, which are all consequences of weak governance in the region. There is very little credible information available on fishing practices (including fishing effort, number of vessels, abundance of stocks among others) and owed to a weak governance system, fish stocks, particularly tuna and shrimp, are facing a drastic decline in both small-scale and industrial fisheries. The SWIO region covers over 15,000 km of coastline that stretches from Kenya through Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique to South Africa. The region is one of the world-s most important biodiversity hotspots and supports the livelihoods of over 100 million people who rely on fisheries on a daily basis. These include both activities undertaken by industrial and small-scale/artisanal fisheries.
