Description:
Mozambique has been classified asa 'medium-intensity conflict' country by the World Bank Fragile andConflict-affected Situations List for five consecutive years (FY21-FY25). Thecountry faces forced displacements due to armed conflicts, natural disasters,and climate change, currently hosting around 25,000 refugees and asylumseekers, in addition to 577,545 internally displaced persons. Most of theinternally displaced persons are concentrated in the provinces of Cabo Delgado,Nampula, and Niassa, while displacements caused by climatic events mainlyaffect the central provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, and Zambezia.Internally displaced persons andrefugees face significant challenges, including dependence on humanitarian aidfor basic needs and limited access to education, employment, and financialservices. The situation is exacerbated by persistent insecurity and recurringclimatic events, making forced displacement increasingly prolonged andfrequent. Creating sustainable support and lasting economic opportunities forthese displaced populations remains a crucial challenge for the government andhumanitarian and development communities.The study under this Terms ofReference (ToR) is to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic of agricultural valuechains in FDP-hosting areas of northern Mozambique. Additionally, the studywill explore how financial institutions can meet the financing needs of thesevalue chains and contribute to local economic development in areas hostingforcibly displaced persons.
