Expression of Interest are invited for Supporting Integrated Management of Miombo Forest and Resilient Food Production in Zambezia. · Issue Date and Time: Dec 20,2023 05:38 · Closing Date and Time: Jan 08,2024 23:59 The Main Objective of this Assignment is to Support Integrated Management of Miombo Forest and Resilient Food Production in Mozambique within the Zambezia Emission Reduction Program and Surrounding Districts. This is Expected through the Elaboration of 2 Reports: 1. Assessment on the Drivers of Deforestation in the Zambezia Province: An Assessment on Agricultural and Climate Induced Drivers of Deforestation. Some Key Assumptions of the Sustenta/Srep Program will be Assessed through a Quantitative (Comprising Satellite Data and Geographical Information Systems Data) and Qualitative Approach (Comprising Community Consultations/ Focus Groups); Including: I) Deforestation is Mainly Driven by Small Scale Shifting Cultivation of Food Crops (Mainly Maize and Cassava) and not Production of Cash Crops; Ii) Increasing Crop Yields at the Level of Medium Size Farmers Prevents Cropland Expansion and Deforestation (Or; Whether They Provide an Incentive to Clear Forests to Increase Opportunities from Agricultural Investments). This Assessment will Inform the Zambezia Emissions Reductions Program and New Initiatives Such as Scale for Which Mozambique is Positioning. 2. High Level Assessment of Land Degradation in Mozambique: A High-Level Assessment on the Status and Magnitude of Land Degradation (including a Ground-Level Assessment to Previous Studies Based on Landsat-S Data) and Comprising Reduction of Ecosystem Services (e.g.; Soil Regeneration and Protection; Regulation of Freshwater and Groundwater and Biodiversity) at Landscape Level; Including an Update of the Agriculture Suitability Map[1].
